Text Box:  BEHIND THE HEDGE:

The word is out that the Waihi history book is outstanding, with historical information about many people in our Waihi community.  The book has been divided into eras of Headmasters and shows the progression of the school from entirely boarding to mixed dayboys and boarding.    We welcome your feedback and memories regarding the book.

CENTENARY DVD:

  Sir Tim Wallis professionally produced our Centenary DVD.  It includes the school production ‘Boy’, highlights of the Centenary, a slide show of photos from the weekend and the movie of Waihi in the 1980’s. Copies are available at a cost of $15 including post and packing.

HOW TO ORDER:

‘Behind the Hedge’ costs $45, and the Centenary DVD costs $15.  For the book, please can you add $5 post & packing if you live in NZ and $20 if you live overseas.   Both can be ordered through the school office, click here to email: admin@waihi.school.nz, fax 615 8118, or phone (03) 615 7040. 

About the Waihi Association

The Waihi Association was formed as an old boys and friends organisation for Waihi School.  The earliest meeting minutes are from November 1973.Text Box:

The Association is run on a voluntary basis and is to be commended for what has been achieved for Waihi School.  Nigel Kerr (pictured right) is the current Chairman.

The objectives of the Association are:

(a)     To further the general well being of Waihi School

(b)     To foster and keep alive among old boys and friends a remembrance of the school and an active interest in its welfare.

(c)     To promote the interests of the school by –

  1. encouraging the attendance of old boys and friends at church services, sports meetings, cricket football and other matches organised by the Association or the school.
  2. By offering scholarships for competition amongst the boys at the school or by giving exhibitions to such boys
  3. By offering prizes for competition amongst boys of the school
  4. By the formation of social clubs and clubs for the encouragement advancement control and management of cricket, football and all other branches of sport or athletics amongst old boys of the school
  5. By raising funds for the erection, extension or maintenance of buildings or other improvements in an about the school or for the purchase of books, materials or equipment, sporting or otherwise, for any other purpose whatsoever
  6. In such other manner as the Committee of the Association shall think advisable.

(d)     To borrow money for the purpose of furthering any of the objects aforesaid

(e )     To accept donations of any kind

The Waihi Association is involved in:

  • Updating the database of old boys regularly and in a usable format so communication is possible.
  • Communicating via newsletter “Waihi Ahead”
  • Organising and hosting Reunions
  • Organising a history book, “Behind the Hedge” for the Centenary
  • Promoting and being involved in organising the Centenary
  • Relocating and renovating the Museum so the artefacts can be more accessible and better preserved.
  • Welcoming visits from old boys at any time – a visitors book has now been provided
  • Encouraging families and individuals to have their own memorials and participate in the school through philanthropy

Membership

Old boys of Waihi School automatically become members and receive a Waihi tie and the Waihi Ahead newsletter, once they graduate from the school.  For anyone else they are welcome to be included on the Waihi Ahead newsletter mail list by clicking the following link: admin@waihi.school.nz.  Send your name and full address details to the school office.
