Scholarships & Music Tuition

Academic

Two scholarships are awarded annually to boys who are in Year 5 at the time of the examination. Age will be taken into consideration. To gain a Scholarship a boy would be expected to be above average academically. Strengths other than academic will be taken into consideration.

The value of the scholarships are 20% of the annual academic school fee.

The scholarships are tenable for THREE ' years. The successful candidates must start Waihi at the beginning of their Year 6 year.

Headmaster's Scholarship

The Headmaster has the discretion to apply a limited number of scholarships under set criteria. Applications may be made directly to the Headmaster relating to the following categories:

  • Financial Hardship ‑ evidence of personal
    circumstances and income will be required
  • All round excellence
  • Outstanding strengths in areas other than academic. May include music, cultural or sporting.

Boarding Bursaries

  • Boarding Bursaries are available through the Ministry of Education where an applicant's home is:
  • 3.2km or more from school or a transport service for those under 10 years.
  • 4.8km or more from school or a transport service for those over 10 years.

Application Forms for Boarding Bursaries are available from the School.

Music Tuition

Tuition is available in piano, drums, singing, bag pipes and a wide range of brass, string, woodwind and percussion instruments. Music Tutor's fees are charged directly to parents.
