Waihi School is entering an exciting new chapter in our history. In response to the continued growth in demand for boarding at Waihi, we are expanding Pyne House. This expansion reflects our commitment to ensuring that Waihi continues to offer outstanding boarding experiences for generations to come.

The Waihi School Board who oversaw the 2007 Pyne House build showed remarkable foresight in their planning, intentionally allowing for a future second phase. This upcoming expansion is a direct result of their vision, and we are grateful for the groundwork they laid to bring us to this point. As you will see in the design, the new development mirrors the existing building and complements its architecture beautifully.

The Pyne House expansion will feature a fully enclosed Atrium that increases the Boarding House common room footprint by one-third, along with two new dormitories, a dedicated day girls’ locker room, a new girls’ locker room for boarders and a new ablutions block.

As part of this expansion, we are offering naming opportunities for these spaces within Pyne House. There are a variety of opportunities available, and we look forward to engaging with our wider community to discuss these together.

We expect the Pyne House expansion to be completed by Term 1, 2027. It will be a wonderful addition to Pyne House.

The Atrium

The enclosed Atrium will create a warm and welcoming gathering space for our community, offering flexibility for events and daily use. Most importantly, it provides much-needed additional room for our growing number of boarders – delivering an extra one-third footprint for our children to enjoy and make full use of it.

 Leave Your Legacy – Naming Rights Opportunity

The new Atrium will provide a prominent naming rights opportunity, with signage positioned on the exterior of the building as shown. This is a chance for a Donor to leave a meaningful and lasting legacy within our expanded Pyne House.

Each room is available for naming, as listed below. They will feature the family name, accompanied by a framed poster that includes a family profile and an acknowledgement of your support for the expansion and why you have chosen to give to this project. Ensuring your legacy is recognised and remembered for generations to come.

A Plaque To Leave Your Legacy

We will be offering a very limited number of named plaques to be installed in the Atrium as shown. These plaques will feature your family name and initials of your choosing. You might like to make an individual contribution or a collective one. There is also an opportunity for a Year Group combination as shown in the example.

How can you support?

To acknowledge the generous support that will help bring the Pyne House Expansion to life, we have created a series of Donor Recognition Tiers. These tiers ensure every contribution is meaningfully recognised, with opportunities for lasting acknowledgement that reflect the impact of your support. From naming opportunities to inclusion on our Donor Board, each tier has been carefully designed to honour those who choose to invest in the future of Waihi School and its boarding community. 

PLATINUM DONORS — $50,000+

Platinum Donors will receive bespoke recognition in honour of their exceptional contribution to the Pyne House Expansion. This may include one of the existing Naming Rights opportunities, or we can work with you to identify an alternative that best reflects your intentions and legacy. Platinum Donors will also be recognised on the Pyne House Expansion Donor Board and an invitation to the official opening of the Pyne House Expansion.

GOLD DONORS — $25,000+ (Limited plaques available)

Gold Donors will be acknowledged with an exclusive plaque featuring your family name and initials of your choosing. Contributions may be made individually or collectively. Gold Donors will also be recognised on the Pyne House Expansion Donor Board and an invitation to the official opening of the Pyne House Expansion.

SILVER DONORS — $10,000+

Silver Donors will be recognised on the Pyne House Expansion Donor Board and will receive an invitation to the official opening of the Pyne House Expansion.

BRONZE DONORS — $1,000+

Bronze Donors will be recognised on the Pyne House Expansion Donor Board and will receive an invitation to the official opening of the Pyne House Expansion.
